I have a 2007 Ultra with the oil temperature gauge in the fairing.
I am thinking about relocating the sensor to the oil tank itself.
Some of the reading I’ve done says to put the sensor in the second
drain plug in the pan, but the service book say that is the pipe plug
and my local dealer said it is factory installed and should not be
removed.
Any suggestions as to where I can relocate the sensor?

Sorry to say but the temp gauge in the fairing is ambient temp not oil temp.

Hey rapid Robert
I took the (useless) air temp out of the fairing and put an oil temp gauge in its place. The gauge measures the oil temp on the cold side of the oil filter, unless you have an oil cooler and then it depends on which oil line you put the sensor, So you can get the temp before or after the oil cooler....

Want to do it right? Pull the pan, drill the appropriate size hole and then run a tap thru it for the thread pitch on your sensor. Seal it up and you should be good to go.
