I gotta go with payloader.....the old Triumph 650 is still a head turner in my opinion....and what about the first Honda CB 750.....the BSA 750 triple...what about a good ole Norton thumper...the old style Beemers....
and....I dare anyone...anywhere....to go to any bike event...where there would be 1,000's of Harleys parked....and find any 2 of them the same.
Harleys are so personalized....no two are the same...
And while we are on the subject....every other " cruiser" bike out dere...is a Harley clone...in that...they are an inline V-twin....ok...not a true inline..but you know what I mean...
Technically, a Victory might be more advanced...but it still looks like **** to me....you give that Victory to the Harley stying dept...it will come out looking like a nice bike....
I would be nothing for Harley to go to an over-head cam design and other technical mods....but....it would'nt be a Harley anymore...and we would'nt buy it....and H-D knows this !!

I just checked the price of the Victory motorcycles. They all cost more than my Street Bob. Anyone that thinks Victory motorcycles are somehow cheaper than Harleys are mistaken.
For that matter, the Japanese big twins are getting up there in price.

...y'know...dis Harley vs. other bikes is really quite simple.
You can't confuse a crotch rocket with a Harley....they are definitely a different kind of bike.
You can't confuse a BMW with a Harley....they are definitely in a niche of their own....
You can't confuse a Triumph with a Harley......etc...
But it stops there...
The Victory's, Suzuki's, Yamaha's, Honda's "Cruiser" bikes are all Harley clones...built to emanate the Harley.
A feeble attempt to cash in on the popularity of the H-D....is there any doubt on this ????

I don't think they are clones. There's really only so much you can do with a frame, seat, bars, fenders, and gas tank. All are going to be similar in one way or another.
You can't really look at the new crop of Japanese bikes and say they look much like Harleys at all. Most are going for a more futuristic look.

..well...I kinda havta agree with the one comment....that Harleys " appear" to look alike.
To the untrained eye...indeed....this is true....your average non-biker dude would not be able to tell a softail deluxe from fatboy...
In fact, when I went shopping for a Harley many years ago...I thought they all looked the same to me as well, even though I had a salesman trying to point all the differences....
The engine looks the same...regardless of which model.....
The tanks all look the same...except for the duece....and even then...you have to look twice...
Only the oil container identifies a softail.....
the bags usually identify a heritage....
I still have a hard time picking out a deluxe model from some of the other softail models....
etc...etc...
It's only after a rider has started to modify his bike, that I can pick them out of a line-up.
At a typical bike night here, there might be 200-300 bikes....I've come to know a lot of them by specific items which really make them different from other Harleys..

Name one bike maker whose bikes are so different you can tell, with an untrained eye, the different models apart. I can see the different Harley from a mile away. That is because I have been around them so much. i have that trained eye. What is the difference between Harleys and others that Harleys all look alike but Hondas, Suzukis, Yamahas, ect don't?

HUH?? maybe the jap bikes look like harley clones but there is no way a current Victory can be mistaken as a Harley, just no way.

ok...why the V-twin development by Victory..and the Japs for their cruiser designs ???
...if they wanted to be different they could do opposing cylinders ( BMW)....or flat V-4 ( Goldwing ) or some other formation....
..but no....they want to emulate the Harley...so they go with the V-twin...... !!!!
..like wise....I'm sure Harley could develop any engine they wanted....but they are sticking to a tried and true formula...the Harley V-twin....pushrod driven....and that's 'jes the way we like it.

so you are saying that just cuz HD uses a v-twin that no other company can use it without coping HD?. well then i believe HD copied the v-twin from someone else so that makes them a copier too right?
and by that reasoning since HD has 2 wheels no other bike can use 2 wheels?? wow....talk about being brainwashed.
