Just in to wave a hand and rev my engine. I just got back into riding after being in a four wheeler for twenty two years. After dropping $160 a week into my gas tank, I knew it was time. Just bought '08 VTX 1300c a few weeks ago. What are the best highway bars to get? I am 6' 4" and need to stretch out when I ride.

Welcome, my work partner has one of those, really likes it. Put hard bags on it, color matched them, added a windscreen, and floorboards for his lady. He wants a set of highway bars, when he comes back from vacation in mid August, he may have a set.

I am also new here. I recently bought a 07 aero and I like the bike but I am outgrowing it very fast. How do you like your vtx. How does it maneuver at low speed. Thanks

I like my VTX 1300C a lot. This is he largest bike that I have owned. The last bike was a 650 Night Hawk in 1983. My only complaint with the VTX is that I get a pinching in the rear end from the seat after several miles in the saddle (If you know what I mean). I just bought highway bars and will be ordering highway pegs this week. I have been told that it should solve the problem by allowing me to stretch out better. I will change the saddle if that does not work. Other than that the bike performs well. I am very please with my purchase. The gas mileage is about 48 mpg city/highway. $12 to $13 to fill up. My wallet is loving it.
I drive 40 miles to work one way. Couldn't see buying anything smaller. Just the right amount of power to get the job done. Small enough to handel in the city.

The VTX 1300 is very good at low speeds. I am 6 ft and a skinny 170 lbs and it does quite well for me.

I take it to the church parking lot and practice though.

My '04 is a heavy, big motorcycle. I can't see anyone having a problem with it's size though as long as you think about what you are doing. I have arthritic knees the left one bad and my driveway is gravel and almost in the swamp. In Spring the drive is a tad spongy so it takes most of my strength to back it up. Sometimes the gravel slides and my foot slips but it hasn't caused a problem yet.

In short if you are on cement and a weakling such as myself you will have no problem as long as you remember what you have.

Hope this helps

Welcome,
Yeah the $160 per week has to hurt,I don't blame you. I retired last year, but I know if I were still working I would take my V-Star to work every too! The VTX is a great looking bike! This is a great forum, a lot of experience to be gathered and shared here and a lot of people willing to share it too!
Enjoy your ride and Ride Safely.

I am brand new to biking (and this site) having just passed the Riders Edge class last weekend. I am totally confused as what bike to buy for my first one. On one hand I would love a Dyna but am a bit worried its a bit much for someone who has only ridden in a parking lot at 15 MPH and has 20 miles under his belt. Your thoughts are much appreciated.

I give everyone the same advice. Buy a smallish beater bike and ride it for a while until you are comfortable. Once you are happy, then you can sell the bike and get what you really want. Most of the time, you can pick up something cheap, ride it for a few months, then sell it for what you paid for it.

I have a Dyna Street Bob. It's a great bike and hasn't given me any trouble, but I have ten years' riding experience.

The second part of my advice is to tell people to take a safety course. You already did that and are ahead of the curve. The question you need to ask yourself now is how well did you handle that little Buell Blast? If you had many issues with it, then that is enough to tell you not to jump on a big twin yet.

Bad advice. Buy a beater bike? No. Buy a smaller bike, OK. Buy a used bike, OK.

Safety is paramount as pointed out further along but a beater bike, esp if you are new to biking? How is one going to know if it is a safe bike. If someone is new to the sport they aren't going to be a mechanic.
